From Pool Tables to Wet Bars

From Pool Tables to Wet Bars: Designing the Ultimate Man Cave for 2022

If you’ve been dreaming of creating a man cave in your home, you are probably imagining a space where you can have a pool table or perhaps an air hockey table or a 3-in-1 poker table. Maybe the man cave you’re dreaming of includes theater seating for the home and, of course, a big screen TV on the wall.

You are probably not imagining a gloomy space with a dehumidifier running in the corner.

There may have been a time when the term “man cave” really did refer exclusively to a space that was dark, damp and, well, cave-like. But we are happy to report that these days the concept of a “man cave” has grown much broader – and much more inclusive.

The Modern Man Cave

Whether you would like to pop open a cold beer or enjoy sipping a craft bourbon in your man cave, you can do it in comfort in today’s man caves.

Here are some ideas and features you may want to consider when setting up your new man cave:

  • Create a gender-neutral space by combining both masculine and feminine elements as Cindy Aplanalp and Christi Petty of Houston-based Chairma Design Group did in a space perfect for enetertaining featured by The Spruce.
  • If you’re working with a large space, consider breaking the room up into zones as Chicago-based interior designer Rae Duncan. “A cozy sectional anchors a built-in bookshelf and media wall for reading, movie nights, or watching the game. An adjacent pool table area is anchored by warm bronze-toned pendant lights that contrast nicely with the rich blue paint on the walls; additional built-in ceiling lighting helps players keep their eyes on the balls,” The Spruce reports.
  • But what if you want that cozy, cave-like atmosphere (without the damp chill, of course) and you are working with a well-lit room with lots of windows? As The Spruce reports, Lori Dennis, an interior designer based in Los Angeles, used a dramatic black ceiling to contrast the bright California sunshine streaming in through the large windows in her client’s man cave. She also used soothing shades of dark blue, caramel and brown in the sophisticated space, which features a pool table, wet bar and games table as well as comfortable seating, guitars and other musical instruments.

We don’t carry blue paint, but we have just about everything else you might need to make your dream man cave a reality – from pool tables to shuffleboard tables and from bars to theater seating for the home. Visit us at one of our two convenient locations in Tampa and Orlando.
